Week 5

Here's a shot of the tailgate Sharon and I attended 9 days ago. She likes this picture because you can barely see her. She was smiling and having a good time in this picture before she became weary a few minutes later. The guy in the blue shirt apparently was having an even better time, camped out next to the keg. I am not sure if he was a regular tailgater or some vagrant that talked his way into free beer. But, you know what they say, what goes on at the tailgate, stays at the tailgate.

The guy sitting next to Sharon is our friend Garry; one of the two guys that drove 100 miles to Birmingham to sit with me during Sharon's surgery. He is a great person. I'd like to see him go back to Tallahassee for a refresher course from my old friend Bill Anthony on how to throw a tailgate, however. Bill is in the tailgating hall of fame. The AU guys, well, maybe someday.

Today was the start of week 5 of Sharon's treatments. Her final treatment will be 3 weeks from today. Is it too early to start a countdown?

We watched a fair amount of football this week. Our alma mater Penn State laid the smackdown on Syracuse. Auburn laid something else, barely squeaking out a 3-2 victory over Mississippi State. You might recall that a former MSU coach got in trouble because he castrated a bull in front of his team. We are still all wondering who did that dirty deed to our offense on Saturday.

Sharon's blood levels are still in the normal range. Her immune system is doing very well compared to most people at this stage of treatment. I hope that bodes well for a speedy recovery in October.

I want to offer special thanks to Don, who volunteered to cut down the 4 foot high weeds that had taken over our shoreline. It's nice to be able to see the lake again.

I have not seen the 'vagrant' around the Lowder building but I think he hangs around a restaurant downtown
